A stunning Job scam has emerged in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, in which a man reportedly secured a government job by forging a woman’s death as his mother to obtain a job in the form of a benevolent appointment scheme.

The accused, Brijesh Kol, son of Shivcharan Kol from Parasia village in Tyonthar tehsil, presented fake documents stating that Bela Kali Kol, his ‘mother’, an assistant teacher, according to him, had died. On the basis of these counterfeit documents, Brijesh got himself appointed as a peon in the Government Higher Secondary School at Jaudori under Gangev block.

But a school principal’s audit flagged something amiss when he checked his documents for processing salaries. The discrepancies led to a painstaking examination that brought to light that Bela Kali Kol had never worked in the education department — and Brijesh was not even related to her.

The issue was brought up to District Education Officer (DEO) Sudama Gupta, who immediately established a three-member fact-finding team to probe the incident. What came next was even more disturbing — five more fake appointments were revealed during the investigation. The concerned names are Om Prakash Kol, Sushma Kol, Vinay Rawat, Hiramani Rawat, and Rama Dwivedi, who had all secured their jobs through identical bogus documents.

These unauthorized appointments were dispersed in various blocks — Tighra, Bida, Ataria, Semaria, and Gangev. All of them had submitted fake documents like cloned death certificates, fake affidavits, and doctored police verifications.

As per Collector Pratibha Pal, these documents appeared authentic on the face of it. But in close scrutiny, the whole chain was found to be forged. She directed the clerk who accepted Brijesh’s application to be suspended forthwith and recommended departmental action against the DEO and nodal officials involved.

The DEO also disclosed that of 36 compassionate appointments granted in the last one year, ten candidates never replied to official communications regarding document verification. Among them, five were found to have produced fake documents and are being investigated under criminal proceedings.

Formal FIR has been filed against six people, including the candidates and the clerk who was to verify the documents and make the appointments.

“The entire application, including death certificates and eight supporting affidavits, was discovered to be fake,” said DEO Gupta. “Brijesh never reported to the school after his appointment, which raised suspicion. We’ve initiated FIRs and extended our investigation to all recent job allocations under the compassionate scheme.”

Superintendent of Police Aarti Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, confirmed that the Civil Lines police station has filed cases under various sections dealing with cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. She added that the illegal hirings were all done between December 2024 and April 2025, and completely false paperwork was submitted in all cases.

Official are now going through all recent recruitments made under the compassionate appointment policy in Rewa to see if there are any other such cases. The scandal has seriously questioned the absence of checks and balances in the state education department and the misuse of government recruitment programs.
